- Radiant Ember is a contemporary luminaire that reinterprets the traditional ritual of the diya (the traditional Indian lamp) through a modern architectural lens. The project seeks to preserve the ephemeral, warm glow of a flickering flame within a permanent, structural form, bridging the gap between cultural heritage and contemporary design. By capturing the atmospheric essence of these traditional light sources, the piece evokes a sense of domesticity and enduring tradition while functioning as a minimal, high-performance object for a modern interior.
- The design is a study in material contrast, pairing an up-cycled live-edge wooden base with a precision-cast resin block. The organic, grounded texture of the wood serves as a tactile counterpoint to the translucent, pigmented resin, which acts as the primary medium for light diffusion. Internally, the luminaire is integrated with a dimmable LED strip housed within a custom-routed recess, allowing for a precise radiant ember effect that can be calibrated to suit the atmospheric needs of a space.
