- This project reimagines the ADU as a sanctuary for inverse living. Designed for two childhood friends, a night nurse and a remote software developer, the home functions as a rhythmic machine that balances deep-recovery silence with nocturnal productivity. While the surrounding city sleeps, the dwelling becomes a hub of connectivity, mirroring the two sides of the same coin relationship of its inhabitants. It transitions from a secure, light-sealed vault during the day to an expansive, high-energy space on the weekends, catering to a duo that prizes domestic privacy as much as they do outdoor adventure.
- To manage the delicate choreography of light and sound within a compact volume, the design utilizes a strategy of operative flexibility. Integrated solar chimneys/light wells act as primary moderation tools, filtering harsh daylight into a soft, diffused glow that protects the occupants' circadian rhythms while providing passive, stack-effect ventilation. Internally, the floor plan is defined by a series of operable walls and panels, allowing the unit to physically bifurcate into isolated work-and-sleep zones or open fully into a singular social volume. This structural adaptability ensures the ADU is a responsive environment that shifts its geometry to support the intense focus of the night shift and the unencumbered freedom of the weekend.
